Welcome! The beginning of the school year is such an exciting but hectic time. COVID, unfortunately, has added a few layers (ok, many layers!) of complexity to this crazy season, but as your Middle School parents, we will do our best to make things a little easier.
CA’s faculty and administration have worked incredibly hard to create our back-to-school plan (Campus Reopening Plan). As we move forward into this “new normal” at school, we understand that families will need regular communication regarding any scheduling or protocol changes. We will send out emails every other Sunday but will send additional announcements promptly if required.
In addition, you will hear grade-specific information from our outstanding Middle School Leadership Team:
6th Grade – Jen Nevaiser and Bridget Thorne
7th Grade – Kimberly Allison
8th Grade – Cynthia Snyder
For those families who have chosen to start school online, your student will participate in an advisory session Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday per the schedule in Mr. Arnold’s 8/20 email. Full time online participation will start Thursday. Your student’s teachers will contact them directly with further details prior to Thursday.
Arrival Time: MS building will open at 7:45. Please do not drop off your student before 7:45.
First Day: All students need to bring their printed wellness check form, 2 Masks (one to wear and a backup in case one is lost or gets dirty), a pencil, a backpack, and a water bottle (if they choose, with name printed on it) to school on the first day. Returning students should also bring their iPads.
***New Info*** iPads: All returning students need to bring their charged iPads to school on their orientation day. New students will receive iPads during orientation.
Masks: All Faculty, Staff, and Students will be required to wear masks at all times in and around the buildings. Masks can be any color or pattern but must be free of writing or slogans. If a student forgets a mask, a disposable one will be provided. Per the Campus Reopening Plan:
Medical grade paper, “surgical,” daily use masks are a preferred mask as they are light, inexpensive, and easily swapped out for clean ones.
Cloth, multi-layered masks are also a preferred mask. These masks should be washed daily, so we suggest each student has multiple masks.
N95 Masks, which are designed to be fitted to individuals and used in clinical settings, are not recommended as they are costly and are not easily cleaned, but they can be worn. •
Single-layer, “gaiter” type masks are not recommended as they do not provide the same level of protection of the multi-layered cloth masks.
Vented masks of any kind are also not allowed since they allow air to escape through the valve.
Lockers: Lockers will not be used – so make sure your child has a backpack that can hold all of their items.
8/24 – 8/26: Orientation Days
8/27: Rotational schedule starts with Gray G group
9/7 – Labor Day (No School)
10/9 – Charlie David Dinner (Virtual)
From the Charlie David Dinner Committee: We’re very grateful that our 800+ student-athletes can play this year! Although CA’s annual athletic fundraiser, the Charlie David Dinner, will take place virtually this year, our student-athletes still need our support. The committee is working hard to create a stellar silent auction that will go live in early October. Stay tuned for more details in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, if you have a silent auction item to offer, please email firstname.lastname@example.org by September 20th, 2020, with item details and value. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support of our student-athletes!
