(LS) Weekly update 11-11-18

Hello Lower School Viking Parents!

Brrrr….Did you hear that? Yup, that’s the sound of cold weather. It’s time to start sending in snow boots (YIKES!) and snow pants (DOUBLE YIKES!) for your young vikings. You may also want to check any back up clothing you sent in to school in the beginning of the year and switch those shorts and short sleeved shirts out to something a little more warm…..and don’t forget the hats and gloves! Remember, our school dress code states no shorts after Thanksgiving break.

  • Saturday, November 17 – Parent’s Day Out, 12-5pm*
  • Tuesday, November 20 Thanksgiving Break begins at end of day
    Monday, November 26 Classes resume
  • Wednesday, November 28 – Kickoff for Parent Education Series on Belonging*
  • Monday, December 3 – Friday, December 7th – Book Fair, 8:00- 4:00pm, Huntington Room (near the Dining Hall)
  • Friday, December 7- Sweet Celebration*

From the Head of Lower School

On Thursday morning at the November Lower School Parent Coffee, Mrs. Schroeder and Mr. Ditty presented on the topic, “Cultivating a Growth Mindset in Kids.”  For those that were unable to attend, here is the slideshow from the presentation.  Our December Parent Coffee will be on Thursday, December 13 from 8:30-9:30 am in the Fireside of the Dining Hall.  The topic will be, “How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk.” It is based on the bestselling book of the same title by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish.

Parenting Article of the Week

This week’s article is from Motherly  and is entitled, “6 questions Montessori teachers ask when they want to change ‘bad’ behavior.”  It can be found following this link.

We will meet on Wednesday, November 14 from 8:30-9:30 in the Fireside Room  of the Dining Hall. It is called The Conscious Parent  by Dr. Shefali Tsabary and we will discuss Chapters 1-7.
