(LS) Weekly Update 05-27-19

Hello Lower School Viking Parents!

I was told years ago that once I have children, time would go faster than I could ever imagine, and sure were they right! Here we are, 3 more FULL days of school left until summer break. Nikki and I would like to thank the phenomenal room and grade parents that volunteered this year. There is absolutely no way this community could run as effectively as it does without you and we are completely full of gratitude! Thank you to all of our parents, who may not have been able to be a room or grade parent, but has volunteered endlessly throughout the year in any of our many capacities. We don’t take any of your time and resources for granted and from the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate it all. We look forward to seeing many of you at the lower school ceremony and carnival and wish all of you an amazing summer break!

We would also like to thank Mark Hansen, Brelle Farrenkopf, Paul Kegelmayer, and Michelle Saling, for their constant support, as well as our PACA leadership; Laura Weiser and Mike Ahern, for their continual guidance.

The lower school is still continuing to collect donations to gift our co-curricular teachers. We will divide all donations equally and gift each one. There is a blue box in the lower school office, and you can insert cash or checks. You can also send an envelope in backpack express, labeled with “Michelle Saling” and “co-curricular gifts”.  As always, this is completely optional but greatly appreciated.

From the Head of Lower School

Mark L. Hansen

The Final Week!
The final week of school is upon us! Special events (many involving children enjoying the outdoors of our campus) have been happening at each grade level.   The end of the year is a time for celebration and reflection. With schedules moving from school-based to home-based, I encourage you to spend some time with your child learning about the highlights and challenges of the year just completed.  For some children, they will be excited to share right away, but for others it may take some time for them to reflect. This coming week you will be receiving a link from me to complete a few questions about how the school year went from your perspective as a parent.  I encourage you to complete and return it. For those families moving to a new city and a new school, thank you for being part of our community and I wish you all the best. We will certainly miss not having your child in our school, but please know he/she is always welcome to come back and visit.  For those returning, I hope you have a wonderful summer of discovery and lots of family time together. Thank you for all of your support you have given the faculty and me this year–it is greatly appreciated!

Thank you to Nikki and Candice

I would like to thank Nikki Bundy  and Candice Singleton for their outstanding PACA leadership this year in the Lower School.  It has been a pleasure to support PACA and all you do for the school and their leadership and support has made us a better school.

After it is completed, students will return to their classroom and parents need to pick up in the classroom.  There is a fun-filled carnival sponsored by PACA for all Lower School children from 9:30 am until 12:00 pm.

Dress Code for the Final Day:

  • Solid-colored short-sleeved shirt (preferably bright) with NO LOGOS (may be turned inside-out).  Please  note: Fifth grade students will wear their end of year grade level t-shirts.
  • Dark-colored (black, navy, gray, etc.) shorts of any type (jean, cargo, athletic, etc.) of school-appropriate length. Socks and tennis shoes.

The ERB results (Grades 3-4-5) will be coming home with  Report Cards. They  will be mailed out/distributed the week of June 10-14.

The LS carnival is almost here!  Mark your calendars for May 31st after the LS ceremony!  The carnival activities are free to CA families & friends, although food is an additional cost.  Everyone should have received an e-mail that asked for parent volunteers and also explain our new wrist bands we will be selling before Carnival day so kids don’t necessarily need cash (although cash will be accepted as well).   We are excited for the Carnival and we hope you are too! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/80504bafad2aab9-2019
