The Lower School will be hosting their annual Celebrations of Accomplishments with parents and students on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17 (all LS grades). We will have a regular school day on Thursday (May 16), but please remember that there will be no school outside of the celebrations on Friday (May 17). We will be offering online signups for these Celebrations of Accomplishments using our normal conference scheduler and you received an email on Friday with instructions for signing up. We look forward to seeing you and I am confident you will enjoy your time celebrating your child’s progress this year!

The final round of Parent Coffees will provide an opportunity to learn about the program in your child’s grade next year as well as time to ask questions.  Two current teachers in that grade level will be present to help introduce you to the program next year. This will take place in the Fireside of the Dining Hall form 8:20-9:20 am.

  • Rising Gr. 3: Wednesday, May 8  (current Grade 2 parents)
  • Rising Gr. 4: Thursday, May 9  (current Grade 3 parents)

Spirit Week is coming up!  During the week of May 13-16 we will have a variety of special days for students.  Here is the flyer with all of the information.

Our Parent Book Club will meet to discuss Part 2 of the book, The Strength Switch, on Wednesday, May 22 from 8:15-9:15 am in the Huntington Room of the Dining Hall.  Please join me! For those that would like to join for the second half, here is the link for more information about the book.

I like to wake up early during the school week and go for a long walk before coming to school.  During my walks, I enjoy listening to a variety of podcasts. This week I listened to one from Freakonomics entitled, The Data-Driven Guide to Sane Parenting with host Stephen Dubner that was published on May 1, 2019.  The podcast and transcript can be found following this link. For those that are not familiar with Freakonomics, I encourage you to try it out–they cover some very interesting topics on a wide range of subjects.  Freakonomics was also a best selling book.

Spring is in the air and summer is around the corner–time to clean out the winter coats and dress code clothing that no longer fit and bring them to The Kids-4-Kids Coat drive! Collection bins will be located at LS/MS/US drop-off locations, and the bus circle, before and after school. ONLY winter coats, hats, gloves, and dress code clothing will be collected, in student sizes, at this time. The collected coats will be used in the fall for our Kids-4-Kids all school service project and the dress code clothing will be added to the Clothing Exchange Closet. Thank you!!

If you have any questions please contact Kimberly Allison, PACA Service, kimberlyga@mac.com.

Spring Gala
The invites are out and CA will be exploding with the 80s on May 11th! The Spring Gala will feature the popular 80s band, The Reaganomics. We will have totally awesome food and drinks, old school-arcade, gnarly silent auction items, photo booth, wine wall, raffle and WNCI’s Kelsey Webb as MC! Be there or be square…

LS Carnival

The LS carnival is almost here!  Mark your calendars for May 31st after the LS ceremony!  The carnival activities are free to CA families & friends, although food is an additional cost.  Please watch for an email in May that will ask for parent volunteers and also explain our new wrist bands we will be selling before Carnival day so kids don’t necessarily need cash (although cash will be accepted as well).   We are excited for the Carnival and we hope you are too!

5th grade graduation party

Friday, May 31st
5th grade party for all CA 5th graders only
