From the Head of Lower School

Mark L. Hansen

Students are welcome to wear shorts again after Spring Break when we return on April 1.  Please remember that all students go outside (whether wearing shorts or long pants) for recess unless it is 15 F or lower and it can be quite cold if they are wearing shorts.

Our next Parent Coffee will be this Tuesday, March 12 from 8:15-9:15 am in the Fireside of the Dining Hall. The topic is our Lower School Swimming and Physical Education program. It will be presented by  Mrs. Lori Moore and Mrs. JoAnne Adams. Please join us to learn more about both of these important Academy programs and ask questions.

From April 15-19 students in Grades 3-4-5 will be taking the ERB Standardized Test.  These are annual tests given to students in Grades 3-8 at Academy.  More details will be provided when we return from spring break, but please refrain from making  dental, doctor, and other appointments when possible during the mornings of this week as testing will be administered between 8:15-10:45 am.

This week’s parenting article is from the New York Times and is entitled, “Mindfulness for Children.”  It can be found using this link.

Read Across America

Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading in March, the birthday month of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. Up until Spring Break, look for donation boxes outside each division office where you can leave new or gently used books to be shared with eager readers in our community! Questions- contact Alicia Crain at craina@columbusacademy.org.
