As I write this article on Friday, the Lower School is completing their Winter Parent Teacher Conferences.  Parent Conferences offer you the opportunity to not only learn about the academic progress of your child, but also how she/he is doing socially.  As a parent with two children at Academy in grades 7 and 12 (and also one son who is a senior in college), conferences have provided my wife and I an insightful “check-in.”  We learned about new interests, new friendships, struggles, and many other aspects about our children we likely all experience in this adventure we call parenting.  Our Lower School faculty have spent 6 months teaching your child and doing all of the magical things outstanding teachers do to make each year a memorable one for them.  If you have any questions in the days following your conference (or at any time), please reach out to them. They are here to partner with you!

Our next Parent Book Club book discussion will be “The Strength Switch” by Dr. Lea Waters.   The rescheduled date is  Friday, March 8 from 8:30-9:30 am.  Please RSVP your attendance using this form.

Afternoon Pickup

Please only use the designated  car line after school or you may park and come inside to meet your child.  Please do not use the carpool circle or Athletic Lane to pick-up your child(ren).

Our next Parent Coffee will be Tuesday, March 12 from 8:15-9:15 am in the Fireside of the Dining Hall. The topic is our Lower School Swimming and Physical Education program. It will be presented by  Mrs Lori Moore and Mrs. JoAnne Adams. Please join us to learn more about both of these important Academy programs.

This week’s parenting article is actually a video by Dr, Michael Thompson entitled,8 Things Parents Cannot Do For Their Children (But Wish They Could).  It can be found using this link.

Please donate your old paper-based egg cartons, rinsed milk cartons and magazines to be recycled for crafts during CA’s Earth/Arbor Day celebration in April. Collection bins (clear, plastic storage containers marked E&A celebration) will be set up in various locations in the Lower School. You or your child can drop off your carton and magazines in the collection bins!
