Lower School Weekly Update 1-27-19

Hello Lower School Viking Parents!

Zip up and get ready for some COLD weather this week!  Please make sure all your Vikings have appropriate cold-weather clothing.  The Lower School lobby Lost and Found is filling up again…so if you’re missing the odd mitten or glove (or coat…yes, you are not alone…plenty of coats inexplicably go missing), you may have luck searching that pile.

From the Head of Lower School

Mark L. Hansen

This coming Friday afternoon we will be having an all-school pep rally.  To prepare for this fun event, students are encouraged  to wear Academy spirit wear and they may also wear jeans.

V-I-K-E-S…let’s go Vikes!

Our next Parent Coffee will be February 19 from 8:30-9:30 am in the fireside of the Dining Hall. The topic is Outdoor Winter Fun With Your Children.  It will be presented by our 3YO Associate and Naturalist, Grace Gordon.  Please join us.

During the morning car line, please make sure that your child(ren) is ready to go when we open the door.  Coats, gloves, hats should already be on, backpacks zipped up, any electronics put away, and goodbyes said.  This will help the morning carline flow efficiently. Thank you for your help.

The next Parent Conferences will be held on:

  • Wednesday, February 27 from 3:40-5:40 pm
  • Thursday, February 28 from 3:40-8:00 pm
  • Friday, March 1 from 8:00 am-3:00 pm (no school on Friday for students)

Conference sign-up information will be sent home soon.

Last Thursday we had a lively discussion during Parent Book Club about our latest book, The Conscious Parent. For those not able to attend, I would highly recommend reading this book.  All present felt that this was a very impactful and worthwhile book. Our next book will be “The Strength Switch” by Dr. Lea Waters.  I had the fortunate experience to be part of a two-day workshop she led with the faculty while at Copenhagen International School.  Here is a short video and interview with Dr. Waters and also a  link to her website.  We will meet on February 28 from 8:30-9:30 am in the Huntington Room.

This week’s parenting article is from NPR  and is entitled, How To Make Sure Your Math Anxiety Doesn’t Make Your Kids Hate Math.”  It can be found following this link.
