Dear Columbus Academy Parents of Incoming 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Boys:
We are working on bringing Let Me Run, a national running program for boys, to the Columbus Academy as part of PACA’s sports offerings for the first time this Fall! Since planning is underway, wanted to reach out to you at the end of this school year to determine interest level in participating.
The Let Me Run program is designed to combine exercise with fun activities and give boys a chance to build friendships and try out a new sport before they are able to join the official CA teams in the 7th grade. Your son does not have to be “a runner” or even good at athletics to enjoy this! Whether he can barely run the mile during gym or already participates in a local running group, this is a chance for him to work on his own goals at his own pace and make progress with a lot of positive reinforcement and encouragement.
Here are some of the key details (still evolving, but this is what we are anticipating the structure will be):
*Registration: Parents will register their boys for the season directly with the Let Me Run nonprofit organization; an online link will be provided in the Fall at the start of school.
*Class Cost: There will be a $120 registration fee payable directly to Let Me Run that will cover program materials, including a T shirt, and the entry fee for a Let Me Run Fall Fest 5K presented by Wells Fargo. Scholarships are available for participants in financial need.
*Program Length: The Let Me Run season starts the week of September 16, 2019 and ends with the 5K race (voluntary!) on Sunday, November 10, 2019.
*Practice Times: Practices will be after school at CA on Mondays and Thursdays during the school week, from 3:45-5:00pm. We will send out a complete schedule that covers holiday weeks, etc. in the Fall.
Please send me an email by July 12 to let me know if your child might want to participate. Let Me Run has a maximum number of children allowed on each school “team,” so if we have a large enough group, we may need more to form than one. I am happy to answer any questions you may have and provide more details/description about the program.
We also need additional parents who are available to come run with the boys at some of the practices and assist the coaches—so please contact me if you are interested!
Thanks, and hope to see your boys in the Fall…
Renee Proctor (Mom of Jonathan, current 5th grader)
